Key facts
Before you go
Check
- Read THB, ฿ and baht as identifiers for the same Thai currency.
- Use the Bank of Thailand's current daily page when an official dated reference rate is needed.
- Check the transaction provider's own rate, fees and terms before accepting a conversion.
The currency identity
Pattaya uses the Thai baht because it uses Thailand's official national currency. The official government page identifies the code as THB and the sign as ฿.
Baht, THB and ฿ identify the same currency. Pattaya has no separate local currency or visitor-only money unit.
Understand baht and satang
Section 7 of the Currency Act states that the currency unit is the baht and that one baht is divided into 100 satang. This is the statutory subdivision, not a conversion into another currency.
When a price uses THB, ฿ or the word baht, keep the amount attached to that Thai-currency identity. The notation alone says nothing about a foreign-exchange rate.
Use a dated source for an exchange rate
The Bank of Thailand publishes a Daily Foreign Exchange Rates page with historical links and a daily data download. Use that page when an official dated reference rate is needed instead of copying a conversion into this evergreen answer.
A dated Bank of Thailand figure is still not a promise of the transaction rate offered by a card issuer, ATM, bank or exchange counter. Check the provider's own quote and terms before a transaction.
Separate currency from payment terms
Knowing that the currency is THB does not answer whether a particular place accepts a card, whether an ATM is available or what fees and conversion terms a provider applies. Those are separate, current decisions.
Use this page for the stable identity of Pattaya's currency. Use the Bank of Thailand page for a dated reference and the chosen provider for the actual transaction quote.
