Reject the universal passport-only answer

The three current bank pages checked on 2026-08-14 do not support one nationwide foreigner checklist. They show materially different published approaches by bank and product. A requirement on one current-account page is not Thai law for every bank, and a branch-contact instruction is not proof that a passport alone will work.

Choose an exact bank and exact account product before collecting documents. Ask whether that product accepts the person's current immigration status, purpose, address and customer profile. Do not ask which bank is easiest or foreigner friendly; those labels invite anecdote and cannot predict a current customer-verification decision.

Read each published rule narrowly

KBank's cited foreign-customer guide lists a passport, non-immigrant visa and purpose-of-entry evidence for its cited accounts and says tourist, visa-on-arrival and free-visa holders cannot open those accounts. Attribute that rule to KBank and the cited products only; do not turn it into a rule for every Thai bank.

Bangkok Bank's savings page tells foreign applicants to contact a branch instead of publishing a universal checklist. SCB's cited current-account page asks a foreign applicant for a passport and work permit for that product. Neither statement establishes what another product or branch will accept.

Prepare an evidence folder, not a guarantee

After the selected bank confirms its current requirements, prepare the valid passport and only the immigration, address, work, study, retirement, tax or purpose records it actually requests. Bring originals and copies only as instructed. Check that names, passport number, address and status dates are consistent across the file.

This page intentionally does not publish a universal document pack, minimum deposit, fee, tax declaration or translation rule. Those items can differ by product and change. Never alter an address, misstate purpose, borrow another person's employment evidence or use an unofficial intermediary to bypass customer checks.

Call the exact Pattaya branch first

Use the bank's current official branch locator or contact route and identify the exact product by name. Ask whether the branch handles foreign applicants for that product, what status it accepts, which originals and copies apply, whether an appointment is available and whether app onboarding occurs only after an account is approved.

Record the date, channel and answer, but treat the call as preparation rather than approval. The person at the counter may still need to verify identity, purpose and documents under the bank's current process. This guide does not claim that every Pattaya branch offers every product or that a telephone answer binds the bank.

Protect documents during the application

Submit identity and financial records only through the bank's confirmed channel or at the verified branch. Do not send passport scans to an address supplied by a social-media account or supposed account-opening agent. Ask why each sensitive item is needed and how to correct an inaccurate record.

If the application is declined or the product is unavailable, ask what fact or policy prevented that specific application and whether the bank has another official product or process. Do not cycle through branches with inconsistent stories. A refusal is not evidence that another bank must approve the same file.

Plan alternatives and protection separately

A foreign card, ATM withdrawal or some Thai QR payment paths may help with particular transactions, but they are not full substitutes for a local account and may have different fees, acceptance and consumer protections. Use the dedicated guides to compare those tasks without implying equal functionality.

If an account is opened, check whether its eligible Thai-baht deposits fall within current Deposit Protection Agency rules. Recheck all three bank pages and the selected branch by 2026-08-28. This is general preparation, not a bank endorsement, approval prediction or individualized financial advice.
