What to do

  1. 1

    Separate the ATM-owner charge

Read the current machine or operator information without assuming one bank's dated tariff applies elsewhere.

  2. 2

    Identify the conversion offer

Check whether a home-currency amount, conversion rate and added markup or fees are being presented.

  3. 3

    Compare your issuer terms

Use the terms for your own card because the researched operator and network pages do not provide them.

Detailed explanation4 short sections

Treat the owner fee as operator-specific

An ATM owner's charge is not a single Thailand-wide amount. Krungsri's tariff, issued on 29 May 2025 and effective 1 July 2025, lists THB 250 per transaction on its foreign-issued Visa/Mastercard and UnionPay withdrawal lines. Other network lines are separate in that tariff.

Use that number only as a dated Krungsri example. It does not establish the charge at another bank's machine, on every card network or for every card product. A comparison claiming the cheapest Thai ATM would require current primary tariffs across operators, which this evidence set does not contain.

Identify any conversion offer

Visa explains that dynamic currency conversion can present a withdrawal in the cardholder's home currency. The disclosure can include the converted amount, exchange rate and additional markup or fees, and the cardholder must have a choice to accept or decline the conversion.

Read that offer as a separate decision from the ATM-owner fee. A home-currency figure may look convenient, but this source does not establish that it is cheaper or more expensive for your account. Your own issuer's rate and foreign-transaction terms are outside the researched page.

Keep the three cost layers apart

Before confirming, distinguish the machine owner's stated charge, any terms imposed by the card issuer, and the conversion choice displayed for the transaction. Combining them into one vague 'ATM fee' makes it impossible to know which part of the cost you are evaluating.

Check your issuer's terms independently because neither the Krungsri tariff nor Visa's consumer DCC page supplies the fee for your card. The evidence also does not support a savings calculation, a best-bank recommendation or a promise about which screen another network will show.

Pause if the choice is unclear

Do not use a dated example as permission to proceed when the current screen differs. Review the actual fee and conversion information presented for that withdrawal. If the conversion disclosure is incomplete or the choice is not clear, do not infer terms that are not displayed.

ATM tariffs, card-network processes and issuer pricing can change independently. Recheck the operator tariff before quoting its figure, and compare the current transaction screen with the terms of the card you will actually use.
